Chemical Peel in San Diego

Personal Attention & Specialized Care

One of the oldest cosmetic treatments in the world, a chemical peel is an acid-based solution that can minimize lines and wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging by removing damaged outer layers of skin. Chemical peels are also a great solution for acne and uneven skin tone. A chemical peel will leave you with fresh, rejuvenated skin.

Your chemical peel will be custom formulated to address your specific areas of concern. Medium strength peels are ideal for those with mild-to-moderate skin problems. Although a chemical peel can be used almost anywhere on the body, it is most often used to treat the face and neck regions.

Medium strength chemical peels are performed on an outpatient basis, so you can return home the same day as treatment. Your face will be cleansed prior to your peel, and in some cases, a mild sedative may be used to ensure your comfort. Using a brush, we will then apply a specially formulated solution to your face.

While applied, the solution may feel warm, and it may sting after a few minutes. Likewise, there may be a sunburn-like sensation after the procedure. Treatment usually takes between 15-60 minutes, depending on the size of the area being addressed.

After Your Chemical Peel

Immediately following treatment, your skin should look as though you are experiencing a mild-to-moderate sunburn. A superficial crust will form over the treatment area and gradually slough off over the course of a week. Redness and swelling are common during the first few days. Although uncommon, you may also experience some discomfort, which can be managed with over-the-counter medication.

Complete healing usually takes about two weeks, but most patients feel comfortable returning to work in about a week, when most visible effects have been resolved. Your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure for several weeks following a chemical peel, so it’s important to wear sunscreen. More than one treatment may be necessary to achieve desired results.

Like most cosmetic procedures, there is a level of risk associated with chemical peels. These risks will be discussed in depth prior to your procedure. Although uncommon, some risks may include prolonged skin redness, pigmentation changes, crusting, swelling, scarring, allergic reaction or infection.
